Bookmarks Dragons (Set №1)

Three dragons rendered in striking silver and obsidian tell the story of a creature's journey through existence. Aleksandr's Bookmarks Dragons Set No. 1 presents each stage across three tall vertical panels — a skeletal dragon with exposed ribcage and hollow skull on the left, a fully scaled and muscular dragon rearing upright in the center, and a ethereal dragon whose body dissolves into flowing leaves and feathers on the right. The monochromatic palette of deep black backgrounds against cool metallic grays creates a mood that feels ancient and ceremonial, like carvings discovered on the walls of some forgotten temple. The relief work here is exceptional, with each bookmark showing remarkable depth despite working within an essentially two-tone range. The skeletal figure on the left catches the most dramatic highlights along its ribs and horn ridges, while the center dragon's overlapping scales demonstrate precise layered filament transitions that suggest real dimensional texture. The rightmost panel achieves something genuinely poetic — the gradual dissolve from scaled flesh into botanical forms reads as seamless even at this level of detail. Standing upright on a dark wooden shelf, these three pieces together create a natural triptych that rewards close looking.
